Rolling Meadows Police Department Dedicated to Excellence
The Patrol Unit is part of the Operations Division along with the Investigations Unit. The Patrol Unit consists of 31 Patrol Officers and is supervised by six Sergeants, and managed by two Commanders. This unit provides 24-hour police service 365 days of the year. Often referred to as “the backbone of the Department,” the uniformed Patrol Unit provides 24-hour coverage of the City and responds to over 9,000 calls each year

The Patrol Officers are assigned to a community policing area and responsible for maintaining good relationships between the Police Department and the citizens of Rolling Meadows, as well as the business community. Officers also receive specialized training, which they utilize at the shift level. Sergeants supervise the deployment of the Officers as well as provide supervision to the Officers in their day-to-day calls and case preparation. Some Officers also belong to task force organizations such as NIPAS (Northern Illinois Police Alarm Service) both in the Emergency Services Team (SWAT), and in Field Force (Crowd Control), as well as Crime Scene Technicians for the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT). MCAT investigates major crimes in the Northwest Suburbs. 

The Patrol Unit responds to all emergency related calls, such as traffic crashes, house and car fires, suspicious persons and vehicles, crimes in-progress calls, burglaries, robberies, assaults, industrial accidents, hazardous materials spills, domestic disturbances, business disputes, neighbor disputes, juvenile problems, crimes against property, etc. These Officers also collaborate with all the schools within Rolling Meadows to provide emergency responses and practice drills. The Patrol Unit managed many special events such as festivals, VIP visits, specialized traffic plan responses, and natural disaster responses.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Patrol Unit is managed by the Patrol Commander. Sworn uniformed officers are responsible for:
  • Enforcing statutes and ordinances
  • Handling motor patrol
  • Investigating crime
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
Main Goals
The Patrol Unit works to:
  • Deter crime by being visible in the community
  • Respond quickly to crime in progress
  • Serve as the primary contact for police services
The Rolling Meadows patrol officers are the primary contacts for police services. The patrol officer has the resources available to take action upon a variety of citizen needs.
