The Public Works Department is responsible for the removal of snow from the streets and the residents are responsible from removing snow from around their curbside mailboxes.

The Public Works Department's priority and responsibility is to clear the roadways of snow and ice to ensure a safe environment for all motorists. In the snow removal process, it is inevitable that snow will be deposited onto driveway aprons. Department crews always do their very best to minimize the depositing of snow on driveways. Remember, after they have finished making the City of Rolling Meadow’s streets safe for passage, they travel home to clear their own driveway. Unfortunately, it is an unavoidable reality when clearing the streets of snow and ice.
The best way to assure that the snow plow clearing the street will minimize the amount of snow left in your already cleared driveway is to shovel snow to your right as you face the street, and also make a pocket on the left side of your driveway. See the illustration below:
Snow that accumulates on the plow will dump into that pocket you cleared and not entirely on your cleared driveway. By doing this, you will reduce the possibility of snow plows inadvertently making your driveway snow-bound again.
Lastly, in an effort to help the Department complete this task as quickly and safely as possible please use extreme caution around the drivers. Unlike driving a car, the drivers are operating many different controls and paying attention to a variety of different things while working. Additionally, they may have been working long hours, so please use caution and yield to their movements. Also, please ensure that you (or your contractor) not plow snow across the roadway. These activities can result in unsafe conditions and can detour the Department from being able to clear the entire roadway.
