LATERAL ENTRY POLICE OFFICER

Current contract as of January 1, 2025 starting salary is $95,133 with a top range of $125,180

The contract will be expiring at the end of 2025, at which point the Rolling Meadows Police Association will re-negotiate a new contract.

A LATERAL ENTRY POLICE OFFICER depending on experience CAN start at a higher step increase.

The Rolling Meadows Police Department currently has 52 Sworn officers including the Chief of Police.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS-LATERAL POLICE OFFICER

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and legally permitted to possess firearms in accordance with state and federal law.
  • No felony convictions
  • Valid driver's license
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Vision correctable to 20/40 and free of color blindness
  • Must be of excellent moral character and personal integrity.
  • Applicants must be currently certified or qualify for a waiver by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB).
  • Lateral Entry Police Officer Applicants must currently have or must have had at least 24 continuous months of Full-Time police experience. Applicants are not required to be listed as “active” to be considered for employment. Those applicants deemed to be waiver eligible can still be appointed through the lateral entry program even if they are listed as “inactive” through ILETSB. All inactive law enforcement personnel considered for appointment must have been in good standing upon separation from the police department where they had served no less than 24 continuous months, and must still be deemed as such prior to appointment.

CITY TOBACCO POLICY 

As of May 2, 2005, all persons accepting employment with the City of Rolling Meadows Police Department must agree that they will not smoke, chew, or use any tobacco product(s) on duty during the entire tenure of their employment. If they do smoke, chew, or use any tobacco product(s) while on duty at any time during the entire tenure of employment, they will be subject to dismissal for cause.

LATERAL ENTRY TESTING PROCESS

Applicants must pass the testing procedure which includes but not limited to:

  • Application 
  • Oral Interview/Writing Exercise
  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph test
  • Psychological test
  • Physical Exam (including vision and hearing tests)
  • Drug Screen
